Land
of Plenty 2000 Release |

"French
Creek", with its beginnings in present-day Southwestern New
York, flows through Northwestern Pennsylvania to the Allegheny
River. From the late 1700's to the early 1800's, this creek served
as an extremely important trade route for transporting goods through
the area. The Seneca Nation held
the area's influence for many decades prior to the British and French campaigns.
Native Hunters used "French Creek" as a transportation
corridor. Hunting was plentiful with ample game of deer, waterfowl,
fish, turkey, and small animals. Game provided important sources
of meat, hides for clothing, antler and bones for tools, and sinew for bindings.
"French Creek" was indeed a Land of Plenty for
both Native Americans and European Settlers. |
