Stories of the Hunt

In this piece of pioneer artwork, Jack Paluh portrays a pioneer turkey hunter recording his thoughts of his hunt in his journal, with his Mountain Cur dog close by. This breed of dog was a necessity for a frontier family. They guarded the family against wild animals and other dangers, and caught, treed, and holed animals which then fed the family.

It has been motivating for Jack to read the journals of Meshach Browning and Philip Tome. Through their writings, he was able to get a personal view of life as a pioneer and hunter, which created the inspiration for this painting.
