Jeremiah Johnson – The Trackers

One of artist Jack Paluh’s favorite movies is “Jeremiah Johnson.” As an outdoorsman himself, he can identify with the main character. Paluh has always been intrigued by the persistence and courage of the Crow Warriors as they continually try to best Johnson throughout the movie. Using the inspiration from the story, Jack Paluh created this Eastern Native American and Pioneer art piece, “Jeremiah Johnson – The Trackers,” to portray Johnson tracking a mule deer. But there is more than meets the eye. When Johnson looks back over his shoulder, he realizes that he is not the only tracker as he is also being tracked. A shadow of a Crow Warrior can be seen in the lower left hand corner of the image.
